Solar-Powered Off-Grid LED Streetlight

A standalone (off-grid) solar-powered streetlight with a 6500lm Speedstar luminaire, a 205W solar panel, and sufficient battery storage to illuminate for five consecutive winter nights if the sun doesn’t appear was installed in Eindhoven (Netherland).  This demonstration pole is based on a Philips Lighting GEN2Solar solution, which was extended with an advanced battery management solution and Lithium battery.  The BattMan project team is collecting data with respect to its performance in Eindhoven, with similar installations in Graz (Austria) and Fredrikstad (Norway). This work is part of the European collaboration project BattMan, supported by ENIAC and the European Commission under contract #304725.  For further information, please contact Eliav Haskal, Philips Research.
